Tips To Help You Care For Your Marble Flooring

Marble flooring can easily add beauty and value to any home or commercial property. However, if these floors are not properly cared for, they can lose their shine and become scratched or stained. Thankfully, the three tips below can help you avoid this type of damage while allowing you to easily care for your marble flooring on a daily basis.

Tip #1: Be Sure To Sweep Your Floors Daily

The dirt and other debris that is tracked inside each day on the bottom of your shoes can easily scratch the surface of your marble floors. This can cause your floors to become dull rather quickly. In order to avoid this issue, you will want to make sure that you sweep your floors each day in order to remove any dirt. You may also want to consider asking people to remove their shoes when coming inside in order to minimize the amount of dirt your marble floors are exposed to. 

Tip #2: Avoid The Use Of Any Acidic Cleaners

Acidic cleaners can quickly break down the protective surface of your marble floors and can result in serious permanent damage. This damage includes etching the surface of your floors and causing your floors to take on a cloudy appearance. The best way to avoid this type of damage is to only use cleaners that are PH balanced. While you can choose to purchase a cleaner that is made specifically for marble flooring, the use of a highly diluted mixture of either ammonia and water or dish detergent and water will often be just as effective and far more affordable. When choosing to use dish detergent to clean your marble floors, just remember to stay away from varieties that include acidic ingredients such as citrus. 

Tip #3: Always Dry Your Floors After Mopping

Marble is a naturally porous stone. Consequently, even clean water is capable of leaving stains on your floor if this liquid is allowed to soak into the marble. In order to prevent this type of staining, you will want to make sure to clean up any spills right away. You will also want to use a soft towel to dry your floors after mopping them. This remains true even if you are cleaning your floors using only a damp mop and a gentle cleanser. Fans can also be used to help dry your floors faster in order to ensure there is no moisture damage.
