Tips For Selecting Between Different Types Of Carpet

Has the time come to replace the carpeting in your home and now you have total control of the kind of carpet that you purchase? Here are some tips for selecting the right kind of carpet for every room.

What Is The Foot Traffic Like?

Take a moment to evaluate what the foot traffic is like in each room of the home that will have carpeting because different rooms can have different needs. If you are carpeting the main room that people step into from the outside, it is going to be a high-traffic area where people, pets, and kids likely spend a lot of time. You are going to want a strong carpet fiber that can withstand all the wear and tear that this area takes on.

Nylon carpeting has very strong carpet fibers that are going to hold up well in heavy foot traffic areas. It also comes in a variety of patterns and colors because it is the most durable. Polyester is going to work great in low-traffic areas, such as a bedroom, where people are not walking on the carpet the same way.

Do You Need Stain Resistance?

It's possible that you are in need of a carpet that has stain resistance. This could be from spills that kids make on the carpeting or pets that have accidents in the house. Polyester is a carpet fiber that is going to be very stain-resistant and will avoid discoloration a lot better than some other materials. Wool carpeting can actually repel oils, which is great if you have kids that are always dropping food on the floor.

How Long Do You Want The Carpet To Last?

One of the unfortunate truths about carpeting is that it is not going to last forever. Even if you buy the most durable carpet material available, it will eventually need to be replaced. However, you can still select a carpet fiber that lasts a very long time.

You'll find that nylon carpeting will last a long time and maintain its look for many years, making it an excellent choice for a home. Polyester can look amazing those first few years it is in your home but will eventually lose that new-carpet look and wear out sooner. You can also get name-brand options that are similar to nylon when it comes to durability but have the additional benefit of improved stain resistance.

About Me

Walking All Over It

When someone says they got walked all over, they often mean they got taken advantage of. Of course, if your floor could talk, it would say the same thing, but it would have a very different meaning. Floors are meant for walking over. That's why we choose comfortable materials, like carpets, for rooms where we plan on doing a lot of standing. Of course, we sometimes have to choose something that's easier to clean, like tile, knowing that it is less comfortable. Well, that's enough writing about flooring for now. If you want more to read, check out this blog. We have plenty of posts, and we promise — they're all about flooring.
