Walking All Over It

Hardwood Floors Are A Great Home Addition

As a homeowner, undoubtedly, you want to perform upgrades that improve the comfort of your home and its beauty. However, equally important is performing upgrades that also increase the value of your home. One upgrade that checks all these boxes is hardwood floors.

The Value Behind Hardwood Floors

It is a known fact that hardwood floors add value to a home, but not everyone understands why. First, hardwood elevates the elegance in a home, and it takes it from average to above average. In fact, in more expensive homes, hardwood is often expected. This addition often makes a home more valuable.

Second, with the right care and upkeep, hardwood will last considerably longer than other flooring options. As such, people are often willing to pay more for an upgrade, upfront, that will reduce their maintenance cost, overtime. Well-maintained hardwood floors can last for decades.

All Hardwood Is Not the Same

If you are considering this update, keep in mind that not all hardwood flooring is the same. To ensure you make the right decision for your home, it is important to have some idea of the variances in different types of hardwood floors. Some of the more common flooring selections include oak, cherry, and ash, and they all vary in different ways, including in price. For example, ash floors can easily cost two times more than oak.

Another difference to keep in mind is durability. While all hardwood is designed to last, certain woods hold up better than others, especially in high-traffic areas, such as a living room. Generally, harder woods, such as oak, are better able to withstand this kind of heavy traffic.

A Crash Course is Necessary

Again, the durability of hardwood is hard to match, but before you have this flooring option installed in your home, you need to research the potential downsides. For example, hardwood is especially susceptible to moisture damage, even if water never directly makes contact with the surface. If you install hardwood and your home has humidity issues, you are likely to experience significant damage.

Hardwood floors also require the right foundation. If the subfloor is not designed correctly, it will not be able to support the hardwood, which will reduce the lifespan of the floor. Careful pre-planning is generally necessary.

About Me

Walking All Over It

When someone says they got walked all over, they often mean they got taken advantage of. Of course, if your floor could talk, it would say the same thing, but it would have a very different meaning. Floors are meant for walking over. That's why we choose comfortable materials, like carpets, for rooms where we plan on doing a lot of standing. Of course, we sometimes have to choose something that's easier to clean, like tile, knowing that it is less comfortable. Well, that's enough writing about flooring for now. If you want more to read, check out this blog. We have plenty of posts, and we promise — they're all about flooring.
